Hello again, fellow feminists!

Welcome back, Southampton feminists!

Apologies for the severe lack of contact, it's been a while I know. We've just been far too busy with meetings and planning and japery for such whimsical online communication, but do expect to see us here more frequently from now on. We have a marvellous new committee and we're all ready and raring to go...

To round up last year's FemSoc story, I shall bullet point the types of things we did in order to a) remind myself and b) impress you by how utterly great we were and will continue to be.
Last year we:
- successfully started a book group
- had a meeting every Thursday
- discussed and debated such issues as the pay gap, domestic violence, international women's rights, the role of men in feminism and FGM, to name but a few topics
- had several film nights, where we watched Made in Dagenham, Persepolis, Thelma and Louise, The Day I Will Never Forget, to name but a few.
- helped the Labour LGBT team campaign for Equal Marital Rights on campus
- helped Emma Lester campaign for better street lighting in Portswood
- campaigned for equal rights with the Fawcett Society
- won 'Highly Commended' at the EVAs for Innovation
- worked closely with the Back the Boycott campaigners to remove Nestle products from our union and assisted in raising awareness of the issue and starting an educational campaign backed by SUSU.

Phew! What a year. This year we have lots more planned, from regular meetings and debates to bigger events and trips and more frequent socials. Such ideas include: a film screening of Erin Brockovich, a showcase of female theatre, an even bigger and better International Women's Day, more participation in London marches and much much more.

This post is just to say hello really and get you all excited for another cracking year of Feminist Society frivolity but also to ask for your advice. If there is anything you'd like to see from FemSoc this year, please feel free to comment below - we'd love to have any ideas thrown in our direction, from potential meetings/discussions/books/films/speakers to ideas for socials and marches. Let us know what you want and we'll do our very best to deliver!

Can't wait to see you all, keep fighting the good fight,

FemSoc xxx
